As midnight rolled around, five adrenaline-fueled fashion designers did what comes naturally after a big runway show. They partied, and put off thoughts of fabric and fit, at least for a little while.
They're unknowns now, but not for long, they hope. The inaugural class of the Fashion Incubator of San Francisco officially said hello to the society set at the 87th annual Junior League fashion fundraiser held at Fort Mason on March 1. This is the first time the league has included new designers in the lineup. There were several other firsts as well: a new venue, on-site shopping events and a new buzz.
"I'm happy the fashion show tradition has new life breathed into it," said interior designer Jean Larette, a longtime league supporter. "They did a wonderful job of turning the cavernous Fort Mason space into an intimate venue. It felt fresh and polished,Welcome to Specialized Cycling jersey online! and there were plenty of great deals from the local vendors."
The five fledgling designers created both spring and fall collections in the year they spent at the incubator program, sponsored by Macy's San Francisco.Big Garmin Cycling and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986. They all "made a quantum leap from spring to fall," said Executive Director Jeanne Allen. Her husband, Marc Grant (they formerly ran the fashion apparel company Jeanne-Marc), took on the Tim Gunn role.
"We were all over them about styling, fit, fabrics, cost and production. We work with all Castelli Cycling computers. Now they all have orders and can go into small production runs. I guess it's time to let them loose."
Justin Jamison, Tamara Jaric, Tony Sananikone, Sabah Mansoor and Bethany Meuleners (the latter two of whom who work as Mansoor Scott) are amateurs no more. "We need investors!" they yelled in unison, the day before the show featuring their spring lines. (Missing from the show was Paloma Broadley.) The five are also slated to present their fall collections at the Conservatory of Flowers at the end of April.
The show, produced by longtime runway show producer Natalie Smith, had plenty of sass. There was something for everyone, from workout wear to wedding gowns.
Jamison's hipster-slim menswear includes micro-climate-ready waxed cotton jackets and an updated white Ultrasuede shirt with a contrasting black panel. "I'm continuing with the waxed cotton and moving into much stronger color blocking for fall," he said. Like most just starting out, he'll continue to work out of his home. "I have to save money for fabric."
Sananikone's version of the women's tuxedo, with wider pants, shorter jacket and sheer chiffon blouse, is now his signature. "I was scared of tailoring before I started at the incubator," he said, "but now I pay attention to fit like never before."
The first item of business this week for the knitwear duo behind Mansoor Scott is to work on their marketing and PR, "updating the website and doing more truck shows," Mansoor said. For fall, they created knit,View profiles and information for the Team RadioShack Cycling 2012 race team and riders here. woven and felted bombers, pencil skirts, and coats embellished with rubberized lace and tiny embedded sequins. "We're taking the San Francisco sensibility and 'New Yorkifying' it a little bit," Meuleners said.
On the runway, Jaric's signature asymmetrical pleats and tucks on black blazers, skirts and dresses impressed Larette. "I loved her black pleated blazer with the rough unfinished edge. The Best moncler jackets men White Mens will meet your satisfaction! I could see wearing her black dress and blazer both day and night." The incubator segment, she said, "had a 'Project Runway' energy to it." Jaric's also taken her work further for fall, working with neoprene and adding a more origami feeling to her pleating. "I really perfected my technique this year. I know who I am as a designer now," she says.
Meet the Incubator's sophomore class
Starting Monday, a second group of fashion designers begins a yearlong residency with Fashion Incubator San Francisco at Macy's. They've toured the workshop and met their predecessors, and now the work begins. Jeanne Allen, the incubator's executive director, is impressed that "they're all in business already, and each speaks to a specific customer."
Michelle Byrnes: Swimwear is tricky, says Byrnes, who studied fashion at City College of San Francisco and whose revealing Saga Swimwear suits were featured in SFiS Style in 2011. "There's a lot of emotion that goes into swimwear for women - there's so much joy in the idea of summer and vacations - but also it brings up how much most women hate their bodies. But I want to glorify and empower women."

Just In - Arc'teryx Gamma LT Hoody
Just landed is the new for spring 2013 Arc'teryx Gamma LT Hoody, a bombproof-feeling, double-weave soft shell that's intended as a tough all-rounder for everything from hiking through to full-on climbing.
Bombproof Feel
First off, this thing feels tough. It weighs in at a substantial 630g for a medium and the fabric has a reassuringly rough outside surface that promises decent abrasion resistance and durability. It's stretchy too - the own-brand Burly Double Weave fabric is made from 50% Nylon, 43% Polyester and 7% Elastane.
Unlike membrane fabrics, double-weave materials like this rely on the close weave of the fabric for decent wind resistance plus a water-repellent treatment to fend off light rain. The pay-off is that they tend to be appreciably better in terms of breathability and wicking performance - good news if you run hot and fast.
With the Burly fabric, the soft-feeling,Erik's Bike Shop is proud to carry Castelli Cycling, gear and apparel. high-wicking polyester is on the inside of the fabric, where it can wick moisture outwards and add comfort and the tougher Nylon forms that durable outer face.
No Compromises
The jacket itself is 100% pure Arc'teryx. One of the things we love about the Canadian brand is that it refuses to compromise on cut or construction. That means a beautifully tapered cut that's engineered to suit athletic builds with slim waists and broad shoulders and that's just what you get with the Gamma LT Hoody.
It's not just about vanity either - closer fitting garments are more efficient. More contact means better wicking, the absence of air gaps reduces internal air currents that move insulating air around. We work with all Specialized Cycling computers.
There's a drop-tail to offer protection for biking or alpine use,Welcome to Garmin Cycling jersey online! two harness-clearing, venting,Big RadioShack Cycling and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986. hand-warmer pockets and an internal zipped chest pocket too. The detailing's lovely in a proper thorough way: the adjustable hem cord, for example, is housed in a laminated rather than stitched tunnel, the cuffs have a neat stretchy insert panel and the front zip is flapped and chin guarded for added protection.
Storm Hood
Last bOur store offer moncler jackets men including men, women and kids.ut not least, there's a full, helmet-compatible Storm Hood with a laminated brim, which is what makes this jacket 'new'. It'll happily swallow a climbing or bike helmet with the stretch fabric aiding mobility even when things are properly cinched in, but it'll also adjust decently to fit a bare head or over a beanie and move seamlessly with your noggin.
Cords are neatly hidden away and the laminated peak, for once, seems to be actually substantial enough to do something, though it's not quite as stiff as a full wired brim. It's probably the best technical hood we've seen on a non-membrane soft shell jacket by some way.
If you had to sum it up, you'd say it feels like the sort of jacket you could bash around in day-in, day-out for a wide mix of activities in most weather short of torrential rain without worrying about durability and with the bonus of a fantastic technical fit and exquisite construction.
Beautifully Made, Beautifully Cut
That may sound pretentious, but it's the truth: Arc'teryx kit is simply beautifully made and beautifully cut. You do pay premium for that, the Gamma LT Hoody has a suggested price tag of 170 and while that may be expensive, we'd wager that the Burly fabric will outlast a lot of its rivals.
The Hoody is available in both men's and women's versions and a choice of four colours in each. Ours is in an orange colour called 'Chipotle' and we're looking forward to giving it a good hammering in what remains of this winter and into the spring.

'The Flying Dutchman' Captain Cursed To Sail The High Seas
"The Flying Dutchman" is an early opera by Richard Wagner. And, like many of Wagner's later works, it's rooted in myth. The Lyric Opera of Kansas City presents this tale of a ghost captain, cursed to roam the high seas. Every seven years,Our store offer moncler jackets men including men, women and kids. the captain goes ashore – and if he finds true love, he’ll be released from the curse.
To bring "The Flying Dutchman" to the stage at the Kauffman Center, the Lyric Opera’s production team turned to Kansas City Costume Company,Erik's Bike Shop is proud to carry Castelli Cycling, gear and apparel. a nearly 90-year old shop in downtown Kansas City.
"I am a firm believer in doing things here in Kansas City, if at all possible. We had these built at KC Costume and it was wonderful, because they have virtually a factory to assemble this and they have some very skilled staff," said Mary Traylor, the Lyric's costume supervisor. "So having it all in one place at one time with really talented people working on it was a major plus to the completion of my vision for the show."
" 'The Flying Dutchman' is a good taste of Wagner and a great first experience for a lot of people," said Tracy Davis-Singh, Director of Production. "One of the great things about building an entire new package of costumes designed specifically for our singers is that we have complete artistic control to display the vision that we have."
Shaping the costumes, sneaking in color
Mary Traylor said the concept behind the costumes was shaped by research, the music, and conversations with the director.
"The costumes started out as kind of a nebulous idea that I then discussed with Bernard Uzan who is the director of the opera, and then I did a lot of research because we are basing it in actual historical era, the turn of the century in Scandinavia," said Traylor. "I wanted color for the women. The ladies when they are singing and fixing the nets, the music is upbeat, and then when they actually arrive, when the boat comes into the harbor, all of these people are gathered together and the music is, you know, bright and kind of upbeat, so I've snuck in the bright colors.
"And then, of course, on the opposite spectrum, you've got the sailors, the rough and ready guys who endure storms at sea, so above and beyond all this is the eternal Dutchman who has been sailing around the world for hundreds of years. And he is above and beyond time, so we had to meld the pristinely-costumed Dutchman with the real women and the sailors, then on top of it the ghost crew. Most people only dream of owning a hermes handbags ."
Building costumes to fit the cast
Richard Paul Fink returns to the Lyric to play the lead role as the cursed captain. During a final costume fitting, Fink and costumer Mary Traylor spoke like old friends as she checked his black captain's jacket.
"This will be the third time I have worked with Mr. Fink. It's really great when you know the person you are designing for," Traylor said. "And he has an incredible physical range, and that's really exciting when you have somebody that knows how to wear the clothes and how to use them. He's not afraid of his clothes. He's incredibly talented as a physical actor as well as a brilliant singer."
Production director Tracy Singh-Davis added that building the costumes in Kansas City allowed the Lyric more control over the artistic process.
"By building all of our own costumes we were able to truly cast the best singers available,Big RadioShack Cycling and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986. the best chorus available, and then build the costumes to fit them, so these little things beyond that, beyond the artistic vision of just the costumes that show how all of the different elements of a production, how interdependent they are on each other," Davis-Singh said.We work with all Specialized Cycling computers.
Pulling the audience "into our vision and our dream"
"We are not portraying reality, we are pulling the audience into our vision and our dream," said Traylor. "And we are hoping that they will participate and I think they will with this one because it's such fusion of wonderful music and beautiful singers and then the visual spectacle on top of it all to make one incredible experience."

Costa Concordia reveals its darkest secrets
The shock of seeing the forlorn hulk of the Costa Concordia hasn't been dimmed by time. Most people only dream of owning a hermes handbags . I'm here once again on the pristine little Italian island of Giglio, made famous not for its beauty, but for the tragedy on its shores.
The Concordia is illuminated by salvage vessels in the inky dark March night. Plans are well advanced to move the vessel, but for now it remains stranded, a macabre beacon at the entrance to the island's main port.
More than a year on from the catastrophe the capsized cruise liner is only now giving up its darkest secrets, with a prosecutor's report now throwing light on how some of the 32 victims died.
The most heart-rending story is that of five-year-old Dayana Arlotti and her father William, who were both unable to find space on a lifeboat. The pair of them struggled to the other side of the tilting ship,Erik's Bike Shop is proud to carry Castelli Cycling, gear and apparel. but fell into a flooded chasm and drowned. Our store offer moncler jackets men including men, women and kids. Dayana was the youngest victim -- it beggars belief that adults in the lifeboat refused to give up their seats for a girl who'd only just started school.
And then there's the horror endured by bartender Erika Molina. She managed to get onto a lifeboat,We work with all Specialized Cycling computers. but fell out amid the chaotic launch. Without a life-jacket she was sucked underwater by swirling currents as the cruise liner capsized.
Maria D'Introno is the only victim whose body has yet to be found. She too was unable to get on the packed lifeboats; so much for women and children first. She was last seen trembling on the edge of the ship. Eventually she jumped into the icy water below. She didn't have a lifejacket and couldn't swim. Just a few hundred meters from shore, she also drowned as horrified islanders looked on.Big RadioShack Cycling and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986.
Giuseppe Girolamo was a musician aboard, lucky enough initially to get into a lifeboat, gracious enough to give up his seat to someone else. He too drowned in those dark panicked hours that followed.
Captain Francesco Schettino has been under investigation for manslaughter and abandoning ship, but prosecutors now recommend he should stand trial, together with four other crew members and a shore-based manager.
One of the accused crew is Manrico Giampedroni. He'd previously been declared a hero, the last person winched off the ship, but he's now accused of failing in his duties to help with the evacuation.
The tragedy is still discussed earnestly as if it happened yesterday, according to one American part-time resident of the island. This tiny maritime community has become inured to the savage power of the sea; the walls of local hotels are covered with fading black and white photos of wrecked schooners and cargo ships. But what shocked locals is that this happened on a calm January night, to a modern cruise liner bristling with the latest navigation equipment. Despite all the advances in ship design and technology, 100 years after the Titanic, once again passengers were left without enough lifeboats.
Since the disaster, the island's small winter population of a few hundred has been swelled by dozens of salvage experts.
The operation to right the Concordia is the biggest maritime salvage exercise ever undertaken with 111 divers working in shifts 24 hours a day from a floating accommodation support vessel tethered next to the wreck. They are helping to deposit 18,000 tons of concrete beneath the hull to stabilize it before it is carefully rolled upright in the summer. Huge "sponson" flotation tanks are being prepared that will act like children's water-wings to give the ship buoyancy and massive metal frames anchored to the granite seabed will become vital crutches to support the hull. The sponsons will the be pressurized with air and the Costa Concordia should then float, enabling experts to tow it to the mainland to be cut up for scrap metal; something that couldn't have been done on the water, for fear it would lead to devastating pollution of this national park. But even if this ambitious salvage is successful, it still will have taken almost two years to remove the wreck.
Although there is no permanent memorial to the tragedy on Giglio, many islanders are reminded about the disaster every time they look out of their window and see the wreck. But even when the ship is gone in September or October, the memories of Friday 13th in January 2012 will remain vivid here -- the night disaster made Giglio notorious.

Kate Winslet Talks Rocknroll Wedding, The Queen & Sarah Burton For Harper's Bazaar
Kate Winslet looking can't-take-your-eyes-off-her BEAUTIFUL is no new thing. But her cover shoot for the Harper's Bazaar April issue is hands down a whole new level of stunning. Kate,The best online shop for sale the hot sell Canada Goose Womens Resolute. now married to Ned Rocknroll (Richard Branson's nephew) spoke of being in a new place but having learnt from her past: “I've really learnt a great deal about myself, in the last four years in particular. As well as having fallen head-over-heels for Ned, Kate continues to woo us with her British actress ways. On being awarded with her CBE for her services by the Queen last year Kate said: “Oh my God, she [the Queen] looks amazing. Beautiful skin - and wonderful thick hair. She looked really well and pretty and fresh, and she was wearing a lovely pale-yellow dress.”
As for the ensemble that Kate wore on the day she met the Queen - by Sarah Burton no less - “I do think Sarah Burton is a genius. And it's remarkable what she's done, moving into a role like that, and really keeping it McQueen - that's hard. I mean, that's like taking over playing Hamlet and playing it exactly the same. It's just incredible. She's given it a touch of herself without taking anything away from it.”

Former Illinois Senator, Northwestern Professor Dawn Netsch Dies at 86
Dawn Clark Netsch, a professor of law emerita at Northwestern University School of Law who left an indelible mark in politics and law in a long career filled with “firsts,” died early this morning (March 5). She was 86.
“Over the course of a long and outstanding career, she was an influential public servant, an esteemed teacher, a beloved colleague and a friend and mentor to generations of students,” said Daniel Rodriguez, dean of Northwestern University School of Law. “She was a trailblazer whose legacy includes numerous 'firsts.'”
Netsch served as an Illinois state senator for 18 years. When she was elected as state comptroller in 1990, she became the highest-ranked woman in Illinois state government and the first elected to state constitutional executive office in Illinois.
She again made history in 1994 as the first woman to run for governor of Illinois as a candidate of a major political party. She was defeated in the general election by Republican Jim Edgar.
Before winning her political campaign for state senate in 1970, Netsch was an architect of Illinois' current state constitution. The Canada Goose Yorkville Parka was originally developed for scientists working in research facilities in Antarctica. She served as legal adviser to Illinois Gov. Otto Kerner in the 1960s, when no woman had held such a post. Most recently, she served on the board overseeing the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform.
“At Northwestern Law, she brought her unique skills to the focused study of state and local government law,” Dean Rodriguez said. “Dawn always reminded us that 'all politics is local' and that our legal and social community can only be understood by exposure to the real world of political officials and lawyers working constructively on behalf of the common good.Discover the largest collection of duvetica jackets for women.”
“She had energy and a verve for life almost to the very end,” said Robert Bennett,The best online shop for sale the hot sell Canada Goose Womens Resolute. the Nathaniel L. Nathanson Professor of Law and former dean of Northwestern Law.
Cynthia Grant Bowman, a professor at Cornell University Law School who served on the Northwestern faculty with Netsch from 1988 to 2006, wrote a book about Netsch's life in politics. The following quote is from a Northwestern story about the book, “Dawn Clark Netsch: A Political Life” (Northwestern University Press,Our store offer moncler jackets men including men, women and kids. 2010).
"Dawn Clark Netsch's story is that of a political trailblazer, who fought hard for women's rights, good government and public education in the rough and tumble world of Illinois politics," said Cynthia Canary, director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, in the story. "Her integrity, intellect and tenaciousness make her an inspiration to all who follow in her wake."
The following is a quote from Netsch that was in a Northwestern video that accompanied the story on her book.
“My feeling always was if you wanted to do something you should be able to do it, whatever your gender,” Netsch said in the video. ”I didn't really think of myself as opening doors or whatever.Shop the latest collection of monster beats cheap from the most popular stores . I was just doing what I wanted to do, and I thought that was what all people, including women, should be allowed to do.”
The following is a quote from Northwestern Law Professor Leonard Rubinowitz on the book jacket of Bowman's book about Netsch.
“Like Dawn Clark Netsch herself, this book is lively, honest, intelligent, and compassionate,” Rubinowitz said. “Netsch is a woman who has always been ahead of her time, yet she never really viewed herself as a feminist -- rather a passionate and persistent fighter for progressive causes (including women's issues) and participatory democracy.
“She simply broke her way into one 'boys' club' after another through her intelligence, her powerful and engaging personality, and her ability to negotiate across the lines that usually separate and divide us.
“Bowman captures beautifully her subject's extraordinary half-century of serving the public, her tireless and tenacious efforts to make government better, and her continuing struggle for social justice.”
Kimberly Yurako, professor of law at Northwestern, said Netsch was known as a force of nature.
“Although small in size, she would fill a room and hold everyone in rapt attention with stories about Chicago politics, jokes and, of course, advice for her beloved White Sox -- all told with a twinkle in her eye and many hearty laughs,” Yurako said.

RETAIL: Savvy at Nordstrom offers cheaper chic
Savvy at Nordstrom has always been synonymous with trendy designers, but at a price. You could easily drop $130 on an Ella Moss T-shirt and $400 on a Trina Turk dress without making a dent in your wardrobe while draining your wallet.
But now, after a makeover of the department in all 117 of the company's full-line stores, Savvy boasts a broader connotation: fashion-forward and affordable.
Around Feb. 15, the company brought in new, less expensive indie brands, including MinkPink, ASTR, Mural, and introduced two of Nordstrom's own lines, Leith and Tildon. Most pieces range from $19 to $98, except for a Viva Veni! long skirt for $128, paired with a $78 denim jacket and $34 shirt on a mannequin.
“We've changed the Savvy experience to include more new, of-the-moment brands at accessible prices.” said John Bailey, a corporate spokesman for Nordstrom. “We're always evolving our offering to better meet the needs of customers.”
On a recent Friday afternoon, Susan Kokosenski, 50, of Corona, gleefully combed through the racks of the new Savvy in the Galleria at Tyler in Riverside.Shop the latest collection ofmonster beats cheapfrom the most popular stores . “I could never afford shopping in this department,Discover the largest collection ofduvetica jacketsfor women.” she said. “Maybe I'd buy one $200 purchase every six months. Now I can get three items for that amount.”
She bought a $78 black ASTR dress trimmed with cutouts and faux leather. “This dress looks like it could be $300,” Kokosenski exclaimed. “I'm picky. This is amazing.”
She quickly snapped up two lace Tildon tops in black and white, $48 apiece, explaining all the versatile ways to wear them.
The selection also impressed Alexis Rabichuk, 59, of San Bernardino. “The prices are fabulous, compared to what they were,” she said. “There are a lot of nice pieces you could put together.”
The stores haven't banished Savvy staples — which typically started at close to $100 apiece — such as Joie, J brand, WildFox, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Haute Hippie, but simply integrated them into other departments, Bailey said. Our store offermoncler jackets menincluding men, women and kids.
He said the company has learned “great lessons” from the success of its partnership with the British retailer Topshop. Last fall Nordstrom began selling the brands' chic and cheap apparel online — Topshop for women, Topman for guys — in 14 of its stores. The Riverside Nordstrom carries selected pieces, such as an $80 slinky print Topshop maxi dress.
Analysts say that the revamp of Savvy is part of a larger trend at bellwether stores such as Target and H & M: offering capsule collections by designers at more affordable prices.

She is speaking at Dallas Children's Advocacy Center's Appetite for Advocacy event on April 3rd, and I wanted to read her story prior to the event. Though the subject matter is difficult (women and children living in SE Asia and Africa in challenging circumstances due to poverty, disease,Cheap prada bags australia hot sale now. and gender inequality issues), it is a fascinating read — especially when she tells her own story.
Always in her handbag: I like things that are coordinated, so in my handbag you'll find my iPhone (though between Mon and Fri it's generally in my hand!), lots of Louis Vuitton (wallet, checkbook, and makeup bag), lots of Chanel lip glosses, sunglasses (I am always on the hunt for a new pair), sweet mint Orbit gum, and my red Tiffany business card holder. The strong, vibrant color always makes me smile when I pull it out. There's often also a pacifier or two, a bow, and other sundry kid stuff that I neglect to take out!
Her uniform: My go-to for work is definitely one of 5 black dresses that I wear with our without a jacket depending on how formal the situation. I have recently discovered Escada and have bought several of their great dresses that make me feel like a million bucks. My weekend uniform is skinny dark jeans, a button down, and a vest with flats.
Her go-to restaurants: We have banned taking our 20-month-old son out to restaurants for the time being (it's just better for everyone that way!), but when we go out with our 4-year-old daughter, Ashley, our standbys are Mi Cocina, La Duni, Campisi's, and Coal Vines. For date night, we love FT33, Nosh, Nick & Sam's,This is the third canada goose chilliwack parka I have owned . Shinsei, and Tei Tei.Our store offer moncler jackets men including men, women and kids. We're headed to the French Room to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary this month — neither of us have been, and we're excited.
Favorite family outing in Dallas: We spend a lot of time at the DMA. The new C3 center is a perfect afternoon outing. And, of course, the new Perot Museum is a place that we love to get lost in on Saturday mornings. Top off the afternoon with a Mambo from MiCo, and you have the perfect day!
Her tip for balancing work and family: That's a great question. Some weeks are just better than others. One thing that helped make life more manageable is that I've stopped saying “yes” to everything from social activities to charitable commitments, which is helping. We try to make certain times of the week sacred — Friday nights at home, for example,The Canada Goose Calgary Jacket maintains a high fashion profile. and 2-4 pm on Sundays, which is reserved for napping. Not scheduling anything during those times is really helpful.
Getting up early helps too. It's not uncommon for me to wake up at 4:30 or 5 am, so that I can get through the two newspapers I read daily (The Wall Street Journal and The Dallas Morning News), answering email, and read through research material for my job. Stretching the day helps me a great deal, thankfully I'm a morning person! I also keep running to do lists for every part of my life — work, personal, kids, and home — and try not to procrastinate. And I outsource. I have someone that helps me with errands on a weekly basis so that my Saturday's are not filled with trips to the tailor, toy store, and other time-consuming errands.
