Savvy at Nordstrom has always been synonymous with trendy designers, but at a price. You could easily drop $130 on an Ella Moss T-shirt and $400 on a Trina Turk dress without making a dent in your wardrobe while draining your wallet.
But now, after a makeover of the department in all 117 of the company's full-line stores, Savvy boasts a broader connotation: fashion-forward and affordable.
Around Feb. 15, the company brought in new, less expensive indie brands, including MinkPink, ASTR, Mural, and introduced two of Nordstrom's own lines, Leith and Tildon. Most pieces range from $19 to $98, except for a Viva Veni! long skirt for $128, paired with a $78 denim jacket and $34 shirt on a mannequin.
“We've changed the Savvy experience to include more new, of-the-moment brands at accessible prices.” said John Bailey, a corporate spokesman for Nordstrom. “We're always evolving our offering to better meet the needs of customers.”
On a recent Friday afternoon, Susan Kokosenski, 50, of Corona, gleefully combed through the racks of the new Savvy in the Galleria at Tyler in Riverside.Shop the latest collection ofmonster beats cheapfrom the most popular stores . “I could never afford shopping in this department,Discover the largest collection ofduvetica jacketsfor women.” she said. “Maybe I'd buy one $200 purchase every six months. Now I can get three items for that amount.”
She bought a $78 black ASTR dress trimmed with cutouts and faux leather. “This dress looks like it could be $300,” Kokosenski exclaimed. “I'm picky. This is amazing.”
She quickly snapped up two lace Tildon tops in black and white, $48 apiece, explaining all the versatile ways to wear them.
The selection also impressed Alexis Rabichuk, 59, of San Bernardino. “The prices are fabulous, compared to what they were,” she said. “There are a lot of nice pieces you could put together.”
The stores haven't banished Savvy staples — which typically started at close to $100 apiece — such as Joie, J brand, WildFox, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Haute Hippie, but simply integrated them into other departments, Bailey said.Our store offermoncler jackets menincluding men,women and kids.
He said the company has learned “great lessons” from the success of its partnership with the British retailer Topshop. Last fall Nordstrom began selling the brands' chic and cheap apparel online — Topshop for women, Topman for guys — in 14 of its stores. The Riverside Nordstrom carries selected pieces, such as an $80 slinky print Topshop maxi dress.
Analysts say that the revamp of Savvy is part of a larger trend at bellwether stores such as Target and H & M: offering capsule collections by designers at more affordable prices.
