Syracuse University junior Kalyn Conley will spend the summer living "the Jack Wills lifestyle" as an intern for the British brand.One of the most popular ones are fake watches, cheap rolex watches illegally produced copies of authentic Rolex watches.That means hanging out on the beach, sailing, surfing and hosting parties, the company said.But the gig isn't all fun and games. Interns get serious training in media and marketing and help Jack Wills stores promote the brand.
They serve as ambassadors for the company and have the chance to fly to the United Kingdom to meet its founders.All the fun stuff is meant to draw people in, said Conley, a public relations major with a minor in retail management. The company will often hand out coupons or offer other deals at the events the interns host."It helps attract people and drive sales to the store," she said.
London-based Jack Wills focuses on apparel and accessories and has more than 60 stores around the world, including 13 in the U.S.Conley, who is planning a career in fashion, beat out a field of more than 5,000 applicants to land the internship in the Jack Wills' Best Summer Job in America contest.
She's one of five winners. The others are students from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Princeton University, Brown University and Boston College.The interns start work May 28 at stores in Nantucket, Newport, Chatham and Southampton. Conley will work at a store in Martha's Vineyard.
