At the entrance is a pale stone bower of equilateral arches and then a brass-plated door opens into a small vestibule and after a turn there is the Chamber. The golden Sovereign’s Throne: empty. Five rows of long benches, red leathered, are stacked on either side. Above, between sets of bar-traced windows, bronze statues of chain-mailed knights hold broadswords and maces. Some of their faces are cast downward as if watching the proceedings below.
From my seat in the guest area, near the entrance, I could see the Labour peers to the right of the throne and the backs of the Crossbench peers and then the rows of the Conservative opposition. A bewigged secretary bent over a desk in the centre of the room. He was browsing Wikipedia on a desktop computer.
When the House is in session the Peers of the Realm come and go intermittently. One made his way from the low wooden gate to a nearby bench, a hand on his walking stick and the other on the railing. His nose dripped, untended. He then drifted into sleep while Lord Bach announced that,Great discounts on our huge range of Castelli Cycling clothing .Welcome to RadioShack Cycling jersey online! ‘the Government does not support or approve of polygamous marriage’. There had been a question tabled by a Baroness concerned about the rights of Muslim women.
The House often sits late into the evening, rising at ten or eleven at night. It’s a strange thought, the upper chamber lit softly by pendulum lights while the Peers lounge opposite one another, holding forth on polygamy, after the Thames outside is moon white and quiet.
That afternoon was my first glimpse of the House of Lords in session, the first time I saw the Chamber, the wood and brass carvings so intricate and detailed it was as if the room itself was a slot for a giant pin-tumbler key. A former Captain in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army, I was now a speechwriter for one of the noble lords though I was beginning to fear I lacked the required stamina. Climate change and the Homeowner Mortgage Support Scheme and then the turmoil of the Scottish banks were debated for over two hours. When Lord Tunnicliffe rose to repeat a Statement on Armed Forces: Reserves first made in the Other Place, I began taking notes, but it wasn’t long before my attention wandered again. My eye was drawn upward to the eighteen knights, armour clad, dispassionate, their weapons lowered or resting on their shoulders. They are life-size, almost shrunken.
The statues in the chamber have been the topic of much debate. In 1850 Lord Osborne said that, ‘such narrow shouldered barons would never have wrung the Magna Carta from the crown’. These icons represent the original signatories and Lord Osborne wanted them to appear more imposing and fearsome. In a similar way, I expected the Peers themselves would be larger than life somehow. One of the Lords I met had been shot by a German machine gun in the Second World War.We work with all Garmin Cycling computers. I was so nervous when I shook his hand that I’m unable to remember his name. Above his breast pocket, on his suit jacket, were loops of black thread used for holding his medals, which seemed to weigh him down. He was bent, unable to stand up straight.
There was something stooped about Lord M as well. We’d first met in the Peers’ Guest Room, a wood-panelled salon with bay windows that face the Thames. Oil paintings of naval battles hung on the walls. He was slouched on a wooden bench, his double-breasted jacket undone and his pocket square halved in a soft triangle. I expected him to be aloof and superior, an Eton educated hereditary Peer quoting Latin epigrams and complaining at large. Instead he listened with an almost embarrassing intensity as I discussed a recent article on the Territorial Army. After Eton he had volunteered to serve in the Household Cavalry rather than attend University.
He had been in Malaysia and Northern Ireland though with a British manner given to understatement, he made light of his experience. ‘It wasn’t like Iraq,’ he said, and went on to describe his time in Northern Ireland as hours of waiting about and setting up checkpoints. He said that his father’s parting advice before he left for Sandhurst was, ‘the whole thing will be ghastly, just stick it.’
‘Did your father talk very much about his service?’ I asked.
‘He was in Palestine with the Guards when the unit was mechanised. The order came down to kill their horses and he said that was the worst moment of his career. Many of the men took it badly and couldn’t do it themselves. They were brought to the desert and he said the horses knew. They knew what was coming.’
It was an anecdote that haunted me. Later, I tracked it down in the library and found a reference in Jane Wellesley’s Wellington: A Family History. Her father Valerian, also an officer in the Household Cavalry at the time, said: I had to take fourteen old black horses of my troop into the Judean hills and shoot them… those fine old creatures who had taken part in all the great state occasions of the last ten years, including the 1936 coronation,Erik's Bike Shop is proud to carry Specialized Cycling, gear and apparel. ended their days on a desolate Palestinian hill, as fodder for the vultures and jackals.
Speechwriting in the Lords was my first job out of the army and I thought it would be a way for me to get beyond the military and start something else,View profiles and information for the Team SAXO BANK Cycling 2012 race team and riders here. something new. But I kept seeing things in the Palace of Westminster that reminded me of military life. Sand from the Normandy beaches is enshrined in the Royal Gallery. Their names are printed on tiny gold plates: Juno, Sword, Gold, Utah, and Omaha. Standing in line for lunch, with a plastic tray in my hand, I noticed the glass cases outside the Terrace Cafeteria are filled with medals from British military history. The most recent is the Elizabeth Cross, given to the next of kin of slain Armed Forces personnel.

This Is What A Buick GNX With 8,000 Miles On The Clock Looks Like, And It Can Be Yours
General Motors skated through the 1980s by putting out some extremely questionable vehicles. Arguably at the height of their institutional arrogance, GM produced cars that were plagued with shoddy build quality and uninspiring performance. Few of them are considered ultra-desirable classics today.
There is one giant exception to this, and it has but three letters in its name: GNX. The General got that one very, very right.Find Christian Louboutin Women Shoes deals and save. Essentially a Buick Regal Grand National with a huge turbocharged V6 engine and an astronomical amount of horsepower and torque, the GNX was capable of the zero to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, making it both a tire-shredder and a giant killer. And it looks mean as fuck, too.
If you've ever seriously lusted after one, consider this very cherry GNX that popped up on eBay with a mere 8,062 miles on the odometer. The seller says it's a pampered model with original paint and factory tires (perhaps the only original GNX tires in history that haven't been murdered), and it comes with full paperwork and a sexy GNX jacket. Wear that thing to the club and you'll have to beat women and/or men back with a baseball bat, probably.
It's worth a click to the auction site just to see what a 1980s Buick looks like today when it's essentially in new condition. I hope this turbo monster finds a good home. Any takers out there?

Ellen Gray in Hollywood
Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj brought their two-diva show to TV critics Tuesday in Pasadena, Calif.
And it was everything you'd want from an act that's probably sorely needed to drum up interest in Fox's “American Idol,” which launches its 12th season Jan. 16 with Carey, Minaj, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban - who'll be lucky if he gets a word in edgewise - at the judges' table.
Both women wore Louboutins, though Minaj's heels appeared to be a half-inch or so higher than Carey's.2012 Garmin Cycling Components. Minaj's hair du jour was a relatively conservative jet black (though a preview of the auditions I saw Monday night suggests she'll roll out her entire wig collection before the season's done).
Carey wore a strapless green cocktail dress and bling at the neck, ears and wrist, Minaj a short print dress in neutral colors and very bright pink lipstick.
Urban went casual in jeans and a leather jacket, Jackson wore black atop some shoes that defy my meager powers of description (he later told me, enthusiastically, that they were Prada).
The body language was classic: Minaj mostly kept her logs crossed in the opposite direction of Carey, who crossed hers demurely at the ankles.
And, oh, yeah, they both talked some (though Carey apologized for being a little raspy from a sinus infection).
Asked about the reports of a feud between the two women, Carey said,Most people only dream of owning a prada bags. “The fighting is what it is. This is ‘American Idol.' It's bigger than all that. It's bigger than some stupid trumped-up thing.”
Asked if each could say something nice about the other (because, yeah, we do therapy here, too), Minaj replied, “I say nice things about Mariah all the time..Find RadioShack Cycling and running devices, heart rate monitors ..She's one of my favorite artists of all time. And I think she's really shaped a generation of singers.”
When Carey's turn came, she said, “That was obviously a very sweet thing to say,” and then observed that the two had worked together once early in Minaj's career and that “I did feel that she was going to go very far.”
I mean, “Nashville” writers couldn't have scripted a scene between Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere any better.
Afterward, Fox “reality” chief Mike Darnell denied that “Idol's” frequent, judge-driven controversies are staged for ratings -- or that they overshadow the comptition.
“There's nothing to talk about but the judges yet, because you don't know the talent,” he said.
And speaking of the talent: If your name's not Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson, don't expect winning “Idol” to keep your name permanently on the tip of anyone's tongue.
After the press conference, a reporter asked Carey how she reacted when contestants sang one of her songs.
She launched into an anecdote about a contestant from a few seasons back who'd sung one of her songs and whom she'd mentored on the show.
“David, what's his last name?...David --? He sang my song, ‘Always Be Your Baby,' and I was mentoring. Blond? I know you know his name -- you know who he is. He was great.Find all you need to know about Castelli Cycling and learn the latest cycling tips and techniques.”
Several of us stood there, and, yes, we knew who she was talking about.
But at that moment, none of us could remember the full name of Season 7 winner David Cook.
Not everyone's body language needs parsing.
Earlier Tuesday, during a session for Fox's new thriller, “The Following,” a reporter had playfully suggested that the onscreen chemistry between Philadelphia's Kevin Bacon, who plays a former FBI agent, and James Purefoy, who plays the serial killer he put in prison, is so strong that sometimes “I'm like,Great discounts on our huge range of Specialized Cycling clothing - shorts, jerseys, jackets & more. ‘Ooh, I just want them to kiss.'”
Bacon immediately leaned to his right and planted one on Purefoy's lips.

Lesley Riddoch: Borgen doesn't imitate Scottish life
A Danish drama popular here throws into high relief the huge gap between the two countries, writes Lesley Riddoch
Borgen continues to mystify many British men. Why on earth are nearly a million (mostly women) wasting Saturday nights watching a subtitled chunk of complex Danish politics charting the fictional trials and tribulations of Birgitte Nyborg – an idealistic socialist-green who unexpectedly becomes Denmark's first female prime minister?
Viewing figures for the first instalment of series two aren't yet available – but Saturday's night's audience is bound to be up on the 629,000 who watched the start of the first series this time last year. That inaugural Borgen in turn eclipsed the debut episode of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation's first UK offering, The Killing, whose regular audience was 1.8 million by the final BBC4 double-bill at Christmas. The Danish-Swedish co-production The Bridge also netted a million viewers in April 2012. It seems we can't get enough of the quirky, blood-thirsty Danes.
If Borgen is The Killing without killing, it's also Sex in the City without sex, The West Wing without Americans and Xena: Warrior Princess without martial arts (or micro-minis). So what has it got?
According to shadow energy minister Caroline Flint: “Borgen is our bellwether: she holds the line; she makes moral choices. She is tough and ambitious but honest; a million miles from the strident, feminist, over-ambitious woman, and other media shorthands used to demean women in UK public life.”
Ah, but not in Scottish public life, I hear the optimists cry. Nyborg would surely be at home north of the Border where Labour and Tory leaders, the Green co-convener and Alex Salmond's anointed heir are all female. She'd be familiar with the latitude and population size and the wheeler-dealing over votes and coalitions.voguejacket Surely feminist, consensual, northern Scotland could hardly be more Borgen?
But there's the rub. Sadly, Holyrood could no more replicate the plot of this Europe-wide hit than BBC Scotland could have produced it. Borgen is not just the story of one beleaguered woman, lonely and isolated at the top of a macho political heap. The series brims with multi-dimensional, persistent,SKY Cycling believable and fallible female characters, like Katrine, the ambitious young TV journalist and her boss, the formidable Hanne.christian louboutin boots
Just as the Swedish Wallander works because understatement and teamwork are real aspects of Swedish culture,RadioShack Cycling and the British Wallander is unwatchable because these admirable qualities are essentially foreign (witness the machismo, overstatement and violence of the BBC's new Ripper Street), Borgen revolves around believable women because Danish public life revolves around women.
You could make many relevant comparisons between Danish and Scottish life – here are just two. Childcare costs for a month are around 1,SAXO BANK Cycling400 for two toddlers full-time in Edinburgh and 500 in Copenhagen (despite a stronger Danish currency). Thus, more women in Denmark work – 74.4 per cent in 2010 against 65 per cent in Britain. (Figures for men are 79 per cent and 76 per cent respectively.)
The British welfare model puts family support into tax credits, while the Danes put almost the same amount into childcare subsidy instead, to much greater social and economic effect.
A British think-tank, the Resolution Foundation, has calculated that the crippling cost of childcare here means a million women are “missing” from the UK workforce. Could an independent Scotland change this? Ms Sturgeon has named four men to devise a Scottish welfare system, yet Denmark already has what Scotland needs – a strategy consciously aimed at gender equality.
Danish professor Jon Kvist has put it succinctly: “Without high levels of female employment, there's not enough tax income to fund the Danish welfairytale.”
The makers of Borgen (The Bridge and The Killing) use real equality as the springboard for a range of characters, behaviours, dialogues and settings Britain's unequal society cannot convincingly invent. They also tackle subjects deemed too hot to handle or too boring to touch – like the childhood abuse of Birgitte's spin doctor or the stultifying process of picking a new EU commissioner – and breathe new life into both.
The confident handing of difficult plot-lines takes Borgen viewers to a new reality – beyond both weary generalisation and idealistic projection. Birgitte's husband Phillip begins as a patient, talented but increasingly frustrated house-husband and finally files for divorce.

The North Face Meru GORE-TEX Jacket Knows No Boundaries
- The Meru GORE-TEX jacket is part of The North Face's Summit Series, built for seriously rugged pursuits.moncler jackets men So while its technical details are aimed for the needs of mountaineers and peak-baggers, the Meru jacket boasts plenty of perks for the slightly less ambitious snowshoer. Particularly those who fall into one of two categories: the perpetual water-logged resident of the Pacific Northwet or long-haul trekkers with a stormy agenda. But even the recreational showshoer will appreciate the hardworking technical performance found in the Meru, thanks to the relatively new GORE-TEX Active Shell construction.
The Active Shell laminate is ultra-thin and ultra-light for highly active sports. The entire jacket tips the scale at roughly 11 oz., but you won't feel robbed of any of GORE-TEX's signature features, like impermeable waterproofing or stellar breathability. (In a nutshell, tiny GORE-TEX pores in the jacket's membrane allow trapped heat vapors to escape but don't allow water or snow to enter.) So whether you're trapped in soggy conditions created by you or Mother Nature, the Meru shell does a dang good job of keeping you dry in the most critical situations as was demonstrated by a recent trip to rainy Seattle, as well as a half-day trek up Utah's Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Staying true to its design philosophy to accommodate big ascents and big packs, The North Face stripped the Meru of any non-essential details, like pit zips or media pockets, to save on weight. But if you're ditching your urban walk for the seclusion of a backcountry ‘shoe, those are traits you won't miss. The extra-large chest pockets are backpack-friendly meaning you access your goods by reaching across with your opposite hand. Sure, it's not entirely convenient for shoving your hands in your pockets, but its large capacity has the ability to store most of your biggest essentials within easy reach. Silicone shoulder grips are strategically used to keep your pack comfortably in place without shifting, and an extra-large storm hood is helmet compatible if you choose to, say, swap your snowshoes for skis on the descent.
In testing this jacket,Garmin Cycling it's worth noting that its alpine fit, which boasts a tapered cut, is surprisingly roomy. I tend to size up when it comes to hard shells, given the addition of a few, thick layers underneath, but it still left me with plenty of mobility to move my arms without constriction. The cut also sits lower, below the hips, for more weather coverage.
While The North Face Meru jacket may be suited for high alpine adventurists, its lightweight, waterproof and breathable construction is exactly what any snowshoer should seek in a technical shell. If your top priority is saving weight or staying dry in the face of wet weather, the Meru does both efficiently and effectively.
The decision to set the opening scenes of Borgen in a code-red military zone feels like a statement of intent. Nyborg may be able to address her soldiers as a wartime leader but she is facing divorce back home. Fonsmark the journalist, This sentiment is echoed by Piv Bernth, the 56-year-old female producer of The Killing,RadioShack Cycling who in 2011 became head of drama at DR, the Danish channel that makes both The Killing and Borgen. Nyborg strikes a chord, she believes, “because she showed that it was possible to be a woman and pursue an aim, [but] she was forced to choose between what she loved — her job — and who she loved — her family”. Bernth says that “the industry as a whole, especially in the US, has been slow to respond to female protagonists” but that Danish TV has had such a run of strong female leads (including some we haven't seen yet) that she is now keen to explore on screen “what the men have been doing while we were telling stories with the women”.
Interestingly, she says that TV production in Denmark is now largely female-dominated, but that bias in favour of one gender in any field is a bad thing. When I ask her if she thinks the world would be a better place with more female prime ministers, more women in combat zones, and more women commissioning TV drama she says: “No,Castelli Cycling I don't think so. I would like to, but no.” “Oh my God,Specialized Cycling yes, maybe,” she says. “There's an authoritative answer for you.” Spoken like true modern role models.

Winter refuges: Johnson City shelters make room for more
The recent cold temperatures have filled the beds in Johnson City's two emergency shelters to capacity. Cots have been set up to accommodate the overflow. And both shelters are making room for more as they encourage everyone who is sleeping outdoors to come inside.
Scott Blevins, director of the Salvation Army shelter, 200 Ash St., said the shelter has been at capacity, housing 108 men, women and children nightly since early last week.
The number includes 11 children who have been in the shelter for more than two weeks, and Blevins said five more children are expected this weekend, which will match the record high number of 16 children that were housed at the shelter earlier this month.
With overnight lows expected to drop into the teens by Sunday, Lainey Howard,Welcome to shop cheap hermes handbags outlet store . donor relations director for the Salvation Army, said, “We do not want anyone sleeping out in the cold. We want them to come inside.”
The white flag, which signals when overnight temperatures will be below freezing and no one will be turned away, is in place outside the shelter. Howard said the army is prepared “to do as much as we can for as many as we can.
“We can put more people on our couches or on cots in our hallways if we need to. Or we can help them find another place to stay,” she said. “Our shelter is an emergency shelter for people to come to when there is an emergency. And extreme cold is an emergency,” she said.
At the Haven of Mercy Rescue Mission, 123 W.Shop the latest christian louboutin boots handpicked by a global community of independent trendsetters and stylists. Millard St., approximately 50 men stayed in the shelter Wednesday night. Thomas Squires, who was working at the front desk on Thursday, said there was room for as many more who need it.
“We've always got room,” Squires said. The world centre of LIVESTRONG Cycling. “Our mission is to help people and to change people's lives and we're not going to turn anyone away at any time, no matter if it's cold or not.
“The past couple of nights have been pretty chilly. People who usually prefer to sleep outside have been coming in asking if they can spend the night with us. We put one cot out. But if it's really cold, we can put 30 or 40 cots in our dining room so we'll always have room.”
With more people coming to the shelters because of the cold, resources are in greater demand and donations to help meet the increased need are also being welcomed.
At the Salvation Army,Browse hundreds of beautiful discount gucci handbags and find the perfect fit for you! Blevins said the greatest need is for bedding — blankets, twin sheets, pillows and pillow cases, towels and baby supplies, including diapers of all sizes.
Howard said, “These are things that we share with other agencies that need them. We give them to people who are leaving the shelter and to people who come to our window and ask for them. We just go through them so fast, especially when the white flag is out.”
At the Haven of Mercy, Squires said blankets, towels and breakfast items, including milk and eggs, cereal, pancake mix and syrup,Where To Buy Canada Goose Online, our moncler jackets men Offer Canada Goose Coacts with Lowest Price. are the items most needed.
“We go strictly on donations and Food Lion and Kroger have been big supporters for us and really blessed us with meats,” he said. “We also had an outpouring of jackets this year and we have some coats left from Christmas if anyone is looking for a coat.”
Finally, Squire said, to those who are sleeping outside in camps around the city, “We want you to come in, especially when it gets cold, even if it's just to get some hot coffee and warm up.”

Top 15 sports stories of 2012
Another memorable year of sports is in the books and it couldn't have been any better. From Eli Manning guiding the New York Giants to a thrilling Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots to the unprecedented Stanley Cup run from the Los Angeles Kings, this year left everyone talking.
But all of those feats just miss the list of the top sport stories of the year as we begin with history from Augusta National Golf Club.
1. London Olympics – For two weeks you raced home from work to see who won the gold in badminton. Only the Olympics could have that type of power. Michael Phelps retired from the sport of swimming as he after setting an Olympic record with 22 medals. Also, swimmer Missy Franklin won four gold medals and one bronze. Jamaican sprinter Usian Bolt won became the first man to defend his 100 and 200 meter titles. Lastly, gymnast Gabby Douglas became the first African-American woman to win the all-around Olympic gymnastic title.
2. Penn State Football Scandal – Happy Valley was never the same as former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of child sex abuse and was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison. Former football head coach Joe Paterno died in January and the NCAA handed down Penn State a 4-year bowl ban.
3. Denver Broncos sign Peyton Manning, trade Tim Tebow to the Big Apple – In one of the biggest free agent signings in NFL history Peyton Manning chose to continue his playing career with the Denver Broncos. Soon after, the Broncos traded Tim Tebow to the New York Jets. As the start of the season began two questions persisted, would Manning ever return to his four-time MVP form and how well would the duo of Tebow and Mark Sanchez work together?
Well, Manning has guided his new teammates to a second consecutive AFC West title as he bids for a fifth MVP trophy, while Tebow has rarely played, becoming the league's most decorated punt protector.
4. Lance Armstrong Stripped of titles - The symbol of strength was stripped of his record-setting seven Tour de France titles by the U.S.Welcome to shop cheap hermes handbags outlet store . Anti-Doping Agency. Lance Armstrong was also barred for life from the sport of cycling.
On October 22 the International Cycling Union officially took away Armstrong's titles and banned him from the sport. UCI President Pat McQuiad said that Armstrong, "deserves to be forgotten."
5. LeBron's Magical Season – The player who took his talents to South Beach finally got his ring. LeBron James led the Miami Heat to the NBA Championship, defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games.
James also won his third league MVP, was NBA Finals MVP and won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in the same year. The Men's Canada Goose Expedition Parka is the stylish choose for you're to wear when you are walk on the city streets.
6. Miguel Cabrera's Triple Crown – What could top three perfect games in one season? Only something that hasn't been accomplished since 1967 as Detroit Tigers outfielder Miguel Cabrera hit for the American League Triple Crown.Aquarium Canada Goose Yorkville Parka fish are a popular option for home . Not to mention that he also won the AL MVP over Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout.
But it was the one-team award that he couldn't capture that meant the most, as the San Francisco Giants swept Cabrera's Tigers in the World Series.
7. Bountygate Scandal - The NFL conducted an investigation on the New Orleans Saints from 2010 and found that coaches and players were involved in a bounty system that gave cash rewards for knocking out opponents out of games from 2009-2011. As a result, the league suspended Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams indefinitely, head coach Sean Payton and linebacker Jonathon Vilma for the entire 2012 season. Three other players and two other Saints personnel suffered lower suspensions.
The players appealed the ruling and it wasn't settled until former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue vacated all the player suspensions and fines levied by current league commissioner Roger Goodell.
8. Junior Seau's Death – On May 3, NFL legend Junior Seau was found dead inside his California home with a gunshot wound to his chest. His death was ruled a suicide and Seau's family donated some of his brain tissue for research to see if his football career contributed to his deadly act.
Seau's death brought more attention to the possible long-term effects of how repeated concussions can affect the brain.
9. College Football Approves Playoff Format - It was the move college football fans have been waiting for as a four-team playoff was approved. Beginning in 2014, a selection committee will choose the top four teams to be in the semifinals game, which will be played at current bowl site. The national championship game will be played a week later and the site of the game will be awarded to the highest bidder.
10. NFL's Replacement Referees – It was the play that shook the NFL, especially the Green Bay Packers. On the final play of the Packers matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw a Hail Mary pass into the end zone. The ball looked to be intercepted by Packers cornerback M.D. Jennings but it was given to Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate when he reached around Jennings to put his hand on the ball out of desperation. The botched call from the referees was worse because one official signaled an interception, while the other called a touchdown for Seattle.
The result of the play forced NFL into settling its labor dispute with the regular officials who were back on the field for week four of the season.

MES gives unclaimed coats to the community
Over the last few years, Monticello Elementary School has collected quite a few coats, jackets, hats, sweaters, and hoodies from students just leaving them at school and not returning to pick them up. This winter, principal Tish Thomas and the AmeriCorps volunteers decided to put the items to good use by distributing them to the community.
“We have the items cleaned at Comet Cleaners here in town and ready to be picked up on Thursday afternoon in the school cafeteria,” Thomas said.
Thomas and five AmeriCorps volunteers were at the cafeteria Thursday to assist participants with item selection.
One little girl came in with her mother and little sister. The volunteers helped find several items the girl liked so she would be extra warm this winter.
“We haven't had a whole lot of people come by, but there have been people come by and get some things,” Thomas said.We invite you to experience choose bagsame for you.
The AmeriCorps volunteers beamed at the ability to help the little girl find cute, warm clothing through their efforts.
Thomas said this project is the AmeriCorps' community service project in observance of Martin Luther King Day, which is in January.
While there were a families to take advantage to the AmeriCorps efforts, there were a lot of items remaining.
“We will probably keep the hats because you never know when you'll need a hat for a kid,Aquarium Canada Goose Yorkville Parka fish are a popular option for home . but the jackets and other items with be given to charity,” Thomas said.
"I once took a painting of a snowstorm — printed with macaronis, mind you — and cut out a picture of Hudson with hat and gloves; glued it to the middle and wrote, 'the best part of my vacation was playing with you in the snow.' My aunt did love that one," Ulrich recalls. She also suggests incorporating sentiments of gratitude using speech bubbles added to those art projects previously made at school.
More often than not, your efforts will pay off. Elementary school teacher Susan Synden, of Ephrata, received an abundance of thank-you's recently after finishing a year of student-teaching a fifth-grade class. "Each child wrote on a list, 'Mrs. Synden's Favorite Things.' Then, they read it to me,Where To Buy Canada Goose Online, our burberry bags Offer Canada Goose Coacts with Lowest Price. one by one ..Best Quality But Low Price Canada Goose Whistler Parka By Dre hot sale online.. things like 'when we wear our warm jackets to recess,' basically it was everything I'd lectured them about, turned around with a positive spin." The kids each gave an office supply to her as well, and some got creative with their messages.
"One parent gave me highlighters, mega-bright nail polish, bright eye mascara, brilliant pink socks, anything that was beyond-bright, then the bag said, 'You were the highlight of my year.' "
Gratitude is linked to well-being, a decrease in anger and resilience, according to Webmd.com, a monitored health information website. Also, "a study suggests that gratitude in teens is linked to feeling good about life, being optimistic, and having a good social network," according to the website.
Best of all, it really doesn't matter what is given as the sign of gratitude, Synden adds. "The effort of doing something .Stay warm and in style during the winter moths with the Canada Goose Resolute Parka... makes one feel appreciated and, of course, appreciation feels great."

Snow Style – FERA has it Down
I do pride myself on having some sense of fashion style even in the back country. Gear is great, but stylish gear is even better. So, since style is one of my main deciding factors when choosing new gear, I continually hope for new momentum in the industry as far as options to choose season to season in the fashion meets function department of outdoor apparel.
Let me introduce you to my 2012 / 2013 top pick of the season for women's outerwear. The FERA Jordan jacket. An adventurous ladies' alpine dream companion and here's why…
In general, a down jacket could be compared to wearing upper body insulation or your favorite duvet cover (sorry, I'm Canadian), because down as a material is ultra lightweight and ever so comfortable. You can literally roll a down jacket up like a sleeping bag or cram it into your backpack along with the rest of your outdoor gear and it will miraculously bounce back into its original shape and form. This is all great except that because down comes in so many shapes and sizes it has been known to make a person look “puffy” in all the wrong areas. Not exactly the look a female outdoor enthusiast is striving for while trying to focus on your outdoor sport. That is exactly the difference and deciding factor for me on choosing The FERA Jordan among a sea of down jacket options.
I want the benefits of down like comfort and heat retention, with added functionality, a great fit and pretty please… a flattering cut. I know, we women demand a lot.
But the FERA Jordan isn't just a down jacket. What makes the Jordan so special, other than incredible fit and the cool color options (I chose the Alpine Blue because it's eye catching, bold and the right shade), is that unlike typical down jackets it keeps you completely and totally dry. It's down with a difference; and the main difference aside from its amazing style is the fact that it's got a weatherproof barrier. Because the body and fill of the Jordan jacket fabric is 80/20, when FERA adds a 100 percent nylon laminate and 10K durable water repellant and breathable moisture barrier – moisture is locked out for good – really!
I've been wearing my new FERA Jordan jacket everywhere and tested it through our extremely temperamental climate here in Vancouver. Hail, rain, wind, occasional sunny patches, snow and slush with zero leaks, zero dampness and 100 percent style ready for the streets and mountains. It was really my snowshoe session up Grouse Mountain, The PEAK of Vancouver that really put my new jacket to the gear test.Browse Men's authentic Louis Vuitton Shoes Personalized Products.Professional authentic Moncler Jackets manufacturer online shop. As I mentioned,Shop women's Ralph Lauren Sweater. it's a monstrous time of year here in Vancouver for weather. We never know what to expect, especially at higher altitudes. While wearing my FERA Jordan and snowshoeing atop Grouse, to my utter astonishment I stayed warm and dry the entire day.
Some of the Jordan jacket features I love are the powder skirt, the ski pass pocket and the detachable storm hood. Actually, the hood is amazing. It's got a little flap that actually holds the hood on your head. My biggest pet peeve about jacket hoods is that they are meant to cover your head from the elements but they fly off all the time,Looking for authentic Gucci Shoes? likely because there's nothing to keep it from blowing right off your noggin. The FERA Jordan has a hood that stays put, thanks to the ingenious little hood flap. My hood stays putt and I stay dry. If you're not a hood gal… don't worry they're detachable.
One last feature I have to touch on is the technology behind the Jordan lining. FERA uses a high-density 230T nylon lining that feels like silk against your skin.Register to enjoy the benefits of Christian Louboutin Women Shoes Online Boutique. I even tested the underlining comfort and wore only a T-shirt underneath the jacket in extreme conditions. On another occasion I over dressed in a base layer and ski sweater. The result, wearing only a T-shirt kept me remarkably warm in harsh conditions while layering up didn't feel bulky thanks to the smooth and silky lining. Less friction, more mobility.
FERA claims to deliver on the three Fs: fashion, functionality and fit – for more than 30 years. And since 30 years is a pretty long time and they're still in the biz of producing fine, fancy winter outdoor wear… they must be doing something right.

Cars strikes, kills man who had been left at roadside
BROOK PARK, Minn. -- Authorities say a pedestrian who was hit by a car and fatally injured in Pine County on Sunday evening had been drinking and fought with a relative — who abandoned him along a road — before he was hit.

The relative drove away, leaving Lockhart along the road.RadioShack Cycling Footprints indicate he walked down a county road and onto Highway 23, where he was struck by the car.

VA-VA-Vroom!
Goa is the place to be in February 2013, a culmination of sorts for biker fever which seems to have hit the country hard. India Bike Week, to be held on February 2 and 3, promises to be the largest congregation of bikers, over 8,000, that India has ever seen in a celebration of the biker culture, a subculture of sorts that has never been truly acknowledged in India, until now, that is.Massive range of RadioShack Cycling clothing and Castelli clothing accessories available .
“There's going to be a lot of events, exhibitions and riding obviously, “ says Sheetal Iyer, consultant with 70 events Media Group in Mumbai and member of The Bikernis. “An exhibition of vintage models and customised bikes will be held. Also, three bike builders will be competing to win the title of the best-made bike.
It's going to be a blast and I can't wait!” she enthuses. People with 50cc bikes or 2000cc bikes are all welcome, she specifies.
In recent times, much greater awareness about biking has come with festivals, exhibitions, race tracks and endorsement of the sport by celebrities -like John Abraham, M.S. Dhoni and Gul Panag, all of which has led to many youngsters taking up professional racing. Many of them plan long road trips around the country.
Adventure junkies plan even longer trips and many perceive riding as a stress-buster.
It's not just cruisers, but even sports bikes have become a craze in the country. Bike enthusiast Bipin Kumar, roustabout at Greatship global offshore, has owned a Yamaha R1, a Suzuki GSXR 750 and now owns a Suzuki GSXR 1000.
Rajini Krishnan, inspired by Moto GP races, started racing on the roads before moving onto professional tracks. “A friend of mine introduced me to race on tracks and ever since I haven't been able to stop. I compete at an international level and was the runner-up at the Malaysian Super Series Championship 600cc category.
There are a lot more young enthusiasts who now want to take racing seriously. Celebrities like Dhoni are definitely an inspiration, now that he's even started his own race team MSD R-N Racing Team India,” says Rajini.
Amidst so much enthusiasm for riding sport bikes and despite the growing awareness of biking as a legitimate sport, the sad reality, as Bipin points out, is that “India lacks the infrastructure for riding these bikes. We're pretty frustrated with Indian roads, where we're a danger to everyone on the road -beggars, dogs, even cows! I prefer to get hurt than hurting someone else,” he says, “We really do need good racing circuits in the country.“
While professional racing is one aspect of it, the other is celebrating biker brotherhood with one-of-a kind festivals. All Kinds of Garmin Cycling Jerseys,Wholesale Top Quality and Lower price Team Cycling Jerseys . Recently the Royal Enfield Rider Mania was held, again in Goa, from November 23 to 25. It had over 700 Royal Enfield enthusiasts participating in the festival that was packed with events, titled `Carry your Bike, `Cleanest Bike', `Beer Guzzling', `Dirt Track Races', `Figure 8', besides performances by besides performances by Shaa'ir n Func and The Raghu Dixit Project. “It's a great way of meeting other motorcyclist from across the country. The festival has been very well received and has stuck to its motto: The thump that binds, “says Sachin Chavan, General Manager, Product Development, Royal Enfield. ACTOR ABBAS, seen cruising along on his Harley Davidson recently, went on a trip from Chennai to Bhubaneswar and back.
“The rider culture in India has grown by leaps and bounds. When you're in college it gives you an adrenaline rush, but now biking helps calm me and sort out issues clocked up in my head. Biking is a community in itself and I'm very passionate about it. “ Not far behind too is the biker sisterhood! Who says only men look badass on those heavy hunks of machinery? Women too get their adrenaline rush from riding bikes, and The Bikernis,Superb range of Castelli Cycling products at Wiggle, the online cycle, run, swim & tri shop. a national motorcycle club exclusively for women, founded by Urvashi Patole, Pune-based biker, has over 100 members. “We women don't just ride on Royal Enfields and Pulsars. We have many who ride 100cc bikes as well. We also teach newcomers, who are usually owners of non-geared scooters, how to ride motorcycles, “says Urvashi.
The group sure does prove wrong every stereotype about biking being a guy thing. “Obviously, we deal with quite an amount of sexism,” grants Sheetal, who is also a member, “But trust me, 90 per cent of people out there actually respect women in the rider's seat. I've personally received a lot of support from my co-bikers and clubs across the country.
It's been great. “
Last September, the group rode to Khardung La in Leh, Ladakh on a record setting journey. They were the first and largest group of female motorcyclists to reach the highest motorable road in the world. Chithra Priya, one of the bikers on the team, covered 1,600 km in 24 hours all by herself. “To me riding is like breathing, like yoga. It calms me and is highly addictive, “she says. “It lets me push myself to my limits. I absolutely love it. “
A professional racer, Chithra attended the Rider Mania festival. “We need more forums to talk about professional biking and showcase talent. India has one of the largest markets for bikes but it hasn't been explored enough, “she says.
If this were to be done, there'd be a market for biker fashion too, waiting to be mined. For its true, there’s nothing cooler than a biker sporting a leather jacket and that laid-back swagger.
For riders, whether they're cruising on their Enfield or zooming past on a Ducati, there's one thing they all share in common, passion. And looks like it's not dying down anytime soon. Actor Dino Morea, who's been a part of road trips, speed races and more,The Whole SAXO BANK Cycling Team is a non-profit Junior and U-23 development program. since his college days, thinks bikers are definitely tagged “cool“. “Initially,Bruyneel exits Specialized Cycling after armstrong report release! it was all about commuting, but now biking is definitely a fashion statement. It's always the rough and tough bad boys you see riding along on their heavy bikes. It's hard to separate the image of a biker from the leather jacket and the boots, so yeah; style is definitely connected to biking.”

I have to admit that I'm somewhere in the middle of this whole debate, and I'm guessing others are there with me. On one hand, I'm glad it's okay to be more authentic at work,Bruyneel exits Castelli Cycling after armstrong report release! and to have some leeway in dress. You can look stylish, feminine, hip, creative or conservative as you wish. That said, the most important role of corporate attire is to make you look credible. Sexy will never be credible, nor will sloppy. It's a fine line to walk, with little forgiveness if you step over it.All Kinds of Specialized Cycling Jerseys,Wholesale Top Quality and Lower price Team Cycling Jerseys . When I'm in doubt, I go back to some tried and true rules.
1. If you want to be on an upward trajectory, dress like your boss, not your peers. Different cities and organizations have unique norms so pay attention to what's worn in your office.
2. Be strategic in your dress. Consider who you're meeting with,Massive range of Garmin Cycling clothing and Castelli clothing accessories available . and dress one level up from them. If they're business casual, throw on a jacket.
3. Stylish is good, sexy is too far. Too tight or revealing is the wrong side of the line.
4. Be careful of “rounding down” in business casual. Don't let the path of least resistance pull you too casual. And remember that anything associated with work, is work. This includes travel and office happy hours.
Image consultant Maribeth Hudgins of Dress Code, told me recently that when it comes to clothes, “structure is power.” That's why jackets, crisp shirts, and tailored suits connote authority. It's a good benchmark to keep in mind when in doubt. I know I am.

In light of recent Twitter events involving Chris Brown's avenging verbal assault on comedian Jenny Johnson, there have been oodles of responses based on Brown's “anger problem,” his misogynistic online comebacks at Johnson, and his grinning face which does not bear the guiltiness of a repentant offender.
