Over the last few years, Monticello Elementary School has collected quite a few coats, jackets, hats, sweaters, and hoodies from students just leaving them at school and not returning to pick them up. This winter, principal Tish Thomas and the AmeriCorps volunteers decided to put the items to good use by distributing them to the community.
“We have the items cleaned at Comet Cleaners here in town and ready to be picked up on Thursday afternoon in the school cafeteria,” Thomas said.
Thomas and five AmeriCorps volunteers were at the cafeteria Thursday to assist participants with item selection.
One little girl came in with her mother and little sister. The volunteers helped find several items the girl liked so she would be extra warm this winter.
“We haven't had a whole lot of people come by, but there have been people come by and get some things,” Thomas said.We invite you to experience choose bagsame for you.
The AmeriCorps volunteers beamed at the ability to help the little girl find cute, warm clothing through their efforts.
Thomas said this project is the AmeriCorps' community service project in observance of Martin Luther King Day, which is in January.
While there were a families to take advantage to the AmeriCorps efforts, there were a lot of items remaining.
“We will probably keep the hats because you never know when you'll need a hat for a kid,Aquarium Canada Goose Yorkville Parka fish are a popular option for home . but the jackets and other items with be given to charity,” Thomas said.
"I once took a painting of a snowstorm — printed with macaronis, mind you — and cut out a picture of Hudson with hat and gloves; glued it to the middle and wrote, 'the best part of my vacation was playing with you in the snow.' My aunt did love that one," Ulrich recalls. She also suggests incorporating sentiments of gratitude using speech bubbles added to those art projects previously made at school.
More often than not, your efforts will pay off. Elementary school teacher Susan Synden, of Ephrata, received an abundance of thank-you's recently after finishing a year of student-teaching a fifth-grade class. "Each child wrote on a list, 'Mrs. Synden's Favorite Things.' Then, they read it to me,Where To Buy Canada Goose Online, our burberry bags Offer Canada Goose Coacts with Lowest Price. one by one ..Best Quality But Low Price Canada Goose Whistler Parka By Dre hot sale online.. things like 'when we wear our warm jackets to recess,' basically it was everything I'd lectured them about, turned around with a positive spin." The kids each gave an office supply to her as well, and some got creative with their messages.
"One parent gave me highlighters, mega-bright nail polish, bright eye mascara, brilliant pink socks, anything that was beyond-bright, then the bag said, 'You were the highlight of my year.' "
Gratitude is linked to well-being, a decrease in anger and resilience, according to Webmd.com, a monitored health information website. Also, "a study suggests that gratitude in teens is linked to feeling good about life, being optimistic, and having a good social network," according to the website.
Best of all, it really doesn't matter what is given as the sign of gratitude, Synden adds. "The effort of doing something .Stay warm and in style during the winter moths with the Canada Goose Resolute Parka... makes one feel appreciated and, of course, appreciation feels great."
