A prominent Gambian and veteran of public administration from the colonial days to the Jammeh era told me the Jammeh government should be appreciative of my visit. He said besides the film project that seeks to market The Gambia and leave a legacy, I will be writing about real life in The Gambia to the world from a unique perspective, free of government and anti-government propaganda.
I am grateful to all the people who welcomed me so far. What I learned about the Gambia since my arrival is more than what many Gambians would know about their country during their lifetimes. Thank you all for confiding in me. I will take what is private and confidential along into the grave and would only be talking about what you respectively approve for public consumption once their times are ripe.
The warm receptions from my immediate and distant families do push me into tears of joy and fulfillment whenever I think of them. From one compound to another, I am being rightly treated as a prince. Whenever I come from location surveys and other film related matters, my legs are washed and subjected to traditional Sarahulleh pedicure and manicure. Not to mention the other forms of pampering and grooming. Food has been in good quality supply. I now understand why babies cry when they are being force-fed without their permission!
I am now entering the last week of my first working visit to The Gambia. Being the seasoned traveler, I always have extra days as reserve to cover the unforeseens in my places of visit.Below are the other classic discount gucci handbags like the Timeless Clutch. This time is not different. I am now adding three (3) more working days to my stay in The Gambia. A death case has occurred in the Casamance side of our expansive Sene-Gambian kabilo. I am advised to be there on time and use the opportunity to meet relatives from Senegal, France, Mali, rural Gambia and elsewhere I last saw 15 to 20 years ago.
Besides there are still some outstanding matters relating to my film project that need to be finalized before I move to the next level. Things in the Gambia can be terribly slow and it can be irritating when one is used to the seriousness and swiftness of commitments and actions in Germany. Patience and restraint are however the keys to breaking through.
The informal interactive sessions with potential actors and actresses as well as crew members at the Alliance Franco-Gambinenne along the Kairaba Avenue,All Kinds of Castelli Cycling Jerseys. was very productive. I understood the fears of the local Gambian talents who lamented the fact that they were repeatedly exploited by non-Gambian directors and producers. I told them I work according the international standards and ethics. The Canada Goose Citadel Parka is popular over the world market. No talent will be commissioned as a cast or crew member of my projects without a legally-binding contract. Fees will be paid as agreed and the production contracts with be governed by the Laws of the Gambia as the production country. I made it clear to them that my noble names “Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu” are more valuable to me than all the monies Bill Gates and the ten richest people in the world own. I practice what I preach. I will not be that greedy to commit a credibility suicide as I cannot be condemning the Nigerians, Senegalese and others for exploiting the generosity of the Head of State and the talents of the young Gambian and then do the same. My compassionate and humanist heart cannot stand it. The fact that I for one cannot hide, makes me very conscious of my duties and responsibilities.
My current film project has, in addition to edutainment diversion, these core objectives: a) to place the mirror before society on the global menace of rape b) market the Gambia’s brands and image c) promote skills and technology transfers between Germany and The Gambia d) expose hidden Gambian talents and I thus nominated a home based Gambian to direct it and d) give me experience in making films in The Gambia as part of my overall plan of contributing my quota towards the development of our own world standard Gambian film industry.
I deliberately kept the production budget of “The Woman In A Black Jacket” low and realistic so as to serve as a filter. Those who are in the film trade just for quick money and fame will leave. But those who are serious and passionate will join me in executing the project until the final cut and I will consider them for the subsequent projects with bigger budgets.Shop Popular Canada Goose Solaris Parka Parka jackets at Canada Goose Outlet Store.
The film is not a commercial project with profit motives. It is an art house social commentary with civic education purpose.
During the official follow-up bureaucracy on my project brief, some top government officials asked if I requested to meet the Head of State, President Jammeh in person and seek his support for my film project. I told them I came to the country with very low expectations. I squeezed time out of busy schedules in Germany to be in The Gambia. If President Jammeh’s busy schedule would permit him an audience with me, I will surely honour it. As required by protocol, I formally wrote a request for an audience or courtesy call and delivered it through the proper channels.
A young journalist asked what would I say or do when President Jammeh agrees to meet me in person: I told him I will meet him with open arms and crack some brotherly humour. The rest will be guided by official protocol.
As for President Jammeh chipping in some dollars into my film project, I said it is not binding on him.Wonderful Gucci handbags collection: Garmin Cycling and discount Gucci handbags by Styledrops. If he chooses to patronize me, I will gratefully thank and credit him on the film’s global marketing package in line with our international standards of honouring arts patrons without it being misconstrued as paid propaganda. I credited the institutions and authorities of the German states for sponsoring our African film festival of Cologne. Why shouldn’t I do the same with The Gambian ones once they seriously support me?
Before boarding the plane from Frankfurt to The Gambia, I registered with the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and have been in touch with the German Embassy in Dakar. My focal persons in the embassy in Dakar was concerned as to whether I will get the requisite permits and adequate support from Jammeh government. I know where they are coming from. It will be demoralizing for me to suspend my important activities in Germany to come home for a productive venture only to face obstacles, unfulfilled pledges, bureaucracy and feet-dragging. They are eagerly waiting for the completed copy of the film as I could be applying for German government funding during the international distribution stage to give the film more established institutional weight.
